Meteorology

Many types of businesses can benefit from past weather data, which can be very helpful for planning purposes. GEOMET meteorologists and statisticians use historical weather and climate data to evaluate the risk and impact imposed by weather.

Our skilled meteorologists have worked closely with both natural gas and electric utility industries to assist them in weather-related risk assessment and supply-and-demand-related planning. GEOMET has proven capabilities which can determine a site's suitability for equipment and operations sensitive to weather extremes. We also cross-analyze weather data, linking common circuit interruptions to underlying weather-related problems.

GEOMET uses state-of-the-art weather forecast products and equipment, including doppler radar, satellite imagery, models, lightning detection, and National Weather Service information to generate a forecast specific to the client's needs. We tailor our forecasts to the client's location, precise time period of interest, and assist in the forecast of specific weather threats such as high wind, lightning, and fog.

GEOMET is also active in the design and development of artificial intelligence-based systems for weather forecasting, climate, and environmental analysis. These systems have been developed for both the Department of Defense and major utility companies.
